Creative Ideas for your Something Blue

Wearing ‘something blue’ on your wedding day is a time honoured tradition that stretches all the way back to the late 1800’s and has been said to bring a bride good luck! And who doesn’t want a little extra luck on their side?!

The only problem is, how does one go about incorporating this colour into an outfit that is (typically) entirely white! In this post we have come up with some cute ideas on how to include your ‘something blue’ in ways that range from subtle to extravagant. All you have to do is take your pick!

Lets start with bold – a blue wedding dress! Okay, hear me out. Although not very traditional, dresses don’t always have to be white! Want to make a statement and ensure you receive your much-deserved good fortune? Try a dress with a light blue tint; the blue equivalent of blush!

Okay, so maybe that’s a bit much for you. Lets suggest something a bit more subtle. Blue flowers in your bouquet are a great way to incorporate this colour as you walk down the aisle. Alternately, you could tie a blue ribbon around the bouquet.

Blue accents on your dress are another way to satisfy the old rhyme. This method also presents you with many creative options! One idea that I LOVE is for dresses with a corset back to use a blue ribbon instead of white. A blue crinoline under your gown is also a cute and creative way to add that POP of colour. If you want to be more subtle, tie a pastel blue belt around your waist.

Accessories are probably the simplest way to incorporate blue into your outfit. Jewellery, a headpiece, or your garter, are some examples of this. Blue shoes are another option. If you want to stick with white shoes, you could always paint the bottoms of them blue! Yes, Pinterest showed me this. How did you know?

These are just a few options that you can consider if you’re hoping to add a little extra luck to the beginning of your marriage. Check out the last two posts covering something old, new, and borrowed, for all of our cute and creative ideas!
