Questions to Ask Before Booking Your Venue

Choosing a venue is typically one of the first things that a couple will do when planning their wedding. You start looking around, you check a few places out, and then all of a sudden, you’ve found it.

That perfect place where you can picture yourselves walking down the aisle, saying “I do”, and beginning the rest of your lives together. But HOLD UP! Not so fast! It’s easy enough to book impulsively once checking your date for availability, but there are lots of questions that you should be asking first! In this article we have complied a list of important questions regarding wedding aspects that you might not even consider until it’s too late!

Are there any other weddings booked on my date?

This is important to know because often, wedding venues will book more than one wedding on the same day. This will affect the amount of time that you have to decorate the venue and determine whether or not there is a rush to tear it down afterwards.

Is there a deposit required and what is the payment schedule?

This one is fairly straightforward. Assuming that you have already set a budget for your wedding, this information is crucial!

Are there any extra fees for use of the venue?

Examples of this would be cleaning fees, overtime fees, etc. Make sure you ask as many questions as possible about extra costs to ensure that you aren’t stuck with a surprise bill at the end of the night!

What is your cancellation policy?

Although you love your venue now, there’s always a chance that you will change your mind! This will force you to be 100% certain before making an impulsive decision.

Does the venue have its own sound equipment or do we need to rent our own?

Often venues will have their own sound systems, but this is not always the case! Make sure you know in advance so you can take potential rental fees into account when planning your budget.

Do you have a liquor license?

This is something that one would assume the venue has already, but you know what they say about assumptions! Make sure to find out about pricing for alcohol as well and if there are any extra fees associated. This is especially important when you’re booking a barn wedding, outdoor wedding, or any pre-wedding celebrations.

These are just a few questions that you might not think of, but in no way is this list exhaustive! If you want to make sure you’re prepared, print out a list of questions beforehand. “Here Comes the Guide” has a fantastic printable list that you can check out here:
